From as far back as I can remember, I was fascinated with honeybees. Growing up in rural Pennsylvania, I would see those white boxes and so many bees flying in and out. I wanted so badly to know what was going inside the hive. While in grade school I read every book I could take out of the library on bees. By the time I was 12 years old, I finally convinced my parents to get my first beehive. The excitement was palpable. This passion only grew over the years and it wasn’t long before I was selling honey to my neighbors and friends. While growing a young family, one year we lost more than half of our colonies and this drove me to go to college for information technology and my dream of living off my bees was retired for a time and back to a lifetime hobby.
Many years later, and “closer” to retirement, I’m returning to my first love. Now living in Colorado, I’m ready to begin again a whole new chapter in my life, right back to the beginning. My goal is to rebuild an army of workers and be back up and running by 2027. Keep on the lookout for updates as I will be blogging my return here on this site. In the meantime, here are some photos of our past adventures from the late 1990’s.
